165 Pages/Italian・English 1984 was a tough year for Ferrari in F1, but the same cannot be said for the company's road cars.
The year marked the return of two of the most iconic and memorable models in the Prancing Horse's history: the Testarossa (also featured previously in this series in a monograph) and the GTO, a more mature outcome of the long and glorious family of V8 cars.
The 288 GTO (the official name of the new model) is a direct descendant of the 308 GTB Speciale (aka Millechiodi) developed by Pininfarina in 1977. Inspired by the 308, the 1984 GTO appeared as its "2.0" version, boasting a sportier design and a 2800cc V8 engine that developed 400 horsepower and a top speed of over 300 km/h. Following the F40 and Testarossa, the Maranello-made supercar graces the series. Its technical and styling origins can be traced back to the voices of some of its creators. |
