It all began with the Cucciolo, an auxiliary engine for bicycles. Through this simple yet pivotal "accessory," the Ducati name made its entry into the world of motorcycles.
Since then, the brand has graced countless fuel tanks, ultimately reaching the pinnacle of the sport with the Desmosedici MotoGP world championship machine. Spanning the spectrum between these two extremes is a diverse range of production models based on various technical and stylistic architectures—most notably the Desmodromic valve actuation system designed by engineer Fabio Taglioni. Having started as a technical feature exclusive to racing engines, the "Desmo" system made its way into mass production in the 1960s with Ducati's single-cylinder models. Then came the L-twin engine, paving the way for the historic victory at the Imola 200, the Pantah series, and finally, a generational shift driven by four-valve engines. The Desmoquattro, designed by engineer Massimo Bordi, laid the foundation for the modern Ducati era—an era defined by both racetrack triumphs and commercial success—and gave rise to legendary models like the Monster.
